Ministering to Those of Other Faiths in the Marshall Islands

Latter-day Saints reach out to 'Be One' with others

In May of 2018 leaders from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Marshall Islands visited with pastors and ministers of four Christian denominations on Ailinglaplap Atoll. A gift of two large bags of rice was delivered to each church group.

Visiting leaders included John Larkin, LDS Mission President, Johannes Seremai, Kwajalein Stake President, and Tracy Salmon, Kwajalein ward Elders Quorum President.

"Local faith leaders were visibly touched by the gifts", said President Larkin. "The ministers smiled, shook hands, and expressed gratitude - and I sensed they were surprised by the visit and gifts."

In addition, provisions are in place to provide music keyboards to each congregation to enable accompaniment to the hymns they sing - as currently there are no keyboards on the island.

Several interfaith activities on Ailinglaplap are planned for the near future, including service projects, and diabetes prevention workshops.

Mormons believe that members who reach out to serve others in their communities learn that their contributions multiply and that personal growth is inevitable.

President Russell M. Nelson, a Latter-day Saint Prophet, has said, "It is our privilege to act in the name of Jesus Christ to bless God's children according to His will for them."
