Members of Tonga Men’s Basketball Team Help Schoolkids

Members of the Kingdom of Tonga’s national men’s basketball team this week loaded donated school furniture from an Auckland school onto a shipping container bound for their homeland.

Leaders and students from Waterlea Primary School in Mangere donated the chairs and desks to benefit another school community. Former prime minister David Lange attended Waterlea school as a child.

Pacific Assist Charitable Trust director, Callum Blair, said the details of the delivery are still being worked out.

“Anything we can do to help kids do well at school, we’ll do it.”

Latter-day Saint Charities—the humanitarian arm of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints—and Pacific Assist have worked together for some years, arranging for donated furniture and other equipment to be delivered to school communities in Pacific island nations.
