Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints lent a helping hand at the Bairiki National Stadium prior to the Republic of Kiribati’s Independence Day celebration held in July 2023.

Local Church leader, President Peninsula Mwemwenikeaki, said, “We responded to the government’s request for help. Church members love to do this work. They are willing volunteers with great desires to help others.”

Volunteers cut the grass inside and around the sports complex. They filled holes with sand and worked at the front gates to repair damage from recent heavy rain.

President Mwemwenikeaki said the youth who helped out "made the work fast and easy.”

Independence Day for The Republic of Kiribati is on July 12 and involves a week of festivities.
