Volunteers Prepare for Saturday's #pacificmormonhelpinghands Day

Day of community service in Australia, New Zealand and Pacific islands

Members and friends of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints will gather in parks, school-grounds and other public places this Saturday to clean up, paint, mow, weed and give other service for the benefit of communities across Australia, New Zealand and the islands of the South Pacific.

The annual event will see Mormon congregations joining with others to beautify and improve communities.

Among the many community projects across Oceania being planned for this Saturday are two clean-ups in Flaxmere, New Zealand. Volunteers will clean up Swansea Village and Te Ahurutanga Whare.

According to the Church's Pacific Area Director of Public Affairs, Richard Hunter, "Latter-day Saints take part in this annual community service day, and other service throughout the year, because we strive to follow the example of Jesus Christ. He led the way in reaching out to others, making lives better, and in small and simple ways, in our neighbourhoods, we can do the same."
