One Tonga is an annual event that commemorates the birthday of His Majesty King Tupou VI.
This year, the special two-day event included a night featuring choirs and other musical presentations from various religious denominations throughout Tonga. The second day focused on healthy living for the people of Tonga, in particular for the younger generation.

Young members of the Tonga Nuku’alofa Capital Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints were invited to participate in the One Tonga “Glorifying God in Song” choral night on Sunday 4 July.
The choir sang the Latter-day Saints’ youth theme song for 2021, “A Great Work,” led by choir director Pelikano Aho.
Following the choir’s performance, Ian Tuihalangingie, president of the stake, expressed his love and well wishes to the King.
Her Majesty Queen Nanasipau’u Tuku’aho was the honoured guest of the night. Also in attendance were government dignitaries, faith leaders, and members of the public.
The event was held at the Queen Salote Memorial Hall, in Tonga’s capital city, Nuku’alofa.
The founder of One Tonga, Ms. Robin Nakao, gave a welcoming address and reminded Tongans that “…despite the pandemic, God still reigns supreme and we can continue to glorify Him.”
She led a moment of silence in dedication to the millions of victims who lost their lives due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
Hundreds filled the hall and one member of the Pahu ward, Sione Lavaki, commented, “I could feel the spirit of the Lord permeate the room with every song. It was really great to witness all these choirs from different churches uniting in song to praise the Lord.”
He continued, “We needed this spirit of song to uplift all Tongans at this time.”
On Saturday 10 July, in a continued spirit of ‘Glorifying God’, One Tonga hosted the “One Tonga Kid Fit” event to promote a healthy lifestyle for the children and youth of Tonga.

Over 1500 children across Tonga, aged 6 to 15, participated in games sponsored by various religious and sports organizations.
The Seventh-day Adventist Church, Church of Tonga, Free Wesleyan Church of Tonga, Corpus Church, Catholic Diocese of Tonga, Tonga Netball Association, Tongan Football Association, and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints came together to promote the objective of a healthy lifestyle for all.
Non-communicable diseases, such as heart disease and diabetes, are the leading cause of death in Tonga. The event was hosted to fight NCD’s and encourage a healthy and active lifestyle for the children and youth of Tonga.
Children participated in activities such as dodge ball, tug-o-war, musical chairs, relay and sack races. The Seventh-day Adventist-Nuku’alofa Church set up a full obstacle course for kids to have fun.
Children and youth of the Tonga Nuku’alofa Capital Stake also attended the event.
