New Honiara Church Building Dedicated Following Community Tours

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints dedicated the Honiara District Centre last Sunday following an open house attended by dignitaries, government leaders, and the public.

Church leader Matthew Sauseru, who offered the dedicatory prayer, encouraged people to tour in and around the building and see for themselves what the Church is all about, reported the Solomon Star newspaper.

“This is the opportunity for us to explain to you what this church is and how we do things in the service of God," Sauseru said.

The open house, nine months in the planning, included tours hosted by Church members and presentations on Mormon beliefs, which centre on Jesus Christ and focus on the happiness that comes from living a Christ-like life.

"In this Church, we believed that Christ is the centre of our lives and we always work in faith with Him,” Sauseru told the Star.

Other presentations included teachings on the importance of strong families, the joy of serving others, and ways to be self-reliant.

Whenever The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints completes construction of a new building, a dedication ceremony is held to set aside the building for the work of God.

Sunday's dedicatory service included remarks by Eddie Misi the first baptised member of the Church in Solomon Islands.  President Matthew Sauseru, recapped the history of the Church in the Solomons and then offered the dedicatory prayer.

The district centre will accommodate larger numbers of members on special occasions, as well as smaller congregations for weekly worship services.

Over 500 visitors and Church members attended the weekend events.  Membership of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Solomon Islands is nearing 800 and growing.
