Gisborne Mayor Meng Foon attended the Gisborne Stake Conference of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on Sunday [9 September 2012.]
He wrote in The Gisborne Herald yesterday [13 September 2012] about being "overwhelmed by the testimonies the young people gave [at the conference on Sunday], from what they were, to a transformed person they are today."
The Mayor continues: "Young and old shared a message for betterment of the family, as the family is the centre of all their work; 80-year-old people dedicated to going to homes to help with budgeting, family issues, advice."
A stake is a Mormon term for a group of wards (congregations) in a geographical area. Members and freinds of the Church meet together in stake conference every six months.
