In recent years, the Pacific Area Presidency has invited members and friends of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints throughout the South Pacific to make February a month of community service.
Members and friends of the Church in Pirae in French Polynesia recently cleaned up their local cemetery in coordination with the city of Pirae.

Mrs. Eliane Lechène, 5th Deputy Mayor, welcomed and thanked the 50 people who arrived at 7:00 a.m. at the city cemetery on Saturday 12 February.
“Tavana (mayor) Edouard Fritch, mayor of Pirae city, who is also the President of French Polynesia, is away from Tahiti at the moment. He learned about your action today and he is very touched by your gesture. The municipal council is also grateful for your involvement in the community,” Mrs Lechène said.
After the words from the Deputy mayor, volunteers cleaned different parts of the city cemetery. Many young people volunteered and worked hard during this “Come and Help” project.
"They came and organized themselves in such a way as to have elders, grandfathers, grandmothers, children, but also young people. It's amazing to see young people so involved and motivated to serve," said Kalani Teniaro, the communication manager of the city of Pirae.
“The Municipality is grateful for this Helping Hands operation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to clean up this site so dear to the hearts of our town’s citizens,” she concluded.
