Hundreds of members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from congregations of the Church in Fiji recently came together to make their nation a more beautiful place.
Several “Mormon Helping Hands” projects were organized for 15 June.
Children from as young as five joined with grandmothers in their 60’s to clean beaches, pick up garbage from streets and spruce up the grounds of a Suva medical centre.

One young participant, Nanise Roko, said, “Being with my friends and helping others is what makes me happy.”
“It’s not hard to get people to help,” says Church spokeswoman Sulueti Kama, “because of their love of the Lord and their willingness to follow His example of service.”
“It’s always so rewarding to see the goodness of people as they help their fellowmen.”
Over 500 Latter-day Saints donated an estimated 1,500 hours of service to their communities in Suva, Nausori, Iami, Nadi, Lautoka, Ba, Tavua and Taveuni on the national 'Mormon Helping Hands' day.
Mormon Newsroom states: “The Mormon Helping Hands program brings together members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and their neighbors to provide community service. These volunteers in their trademark yellow shirts help people whose lives have been affected by natural disasters and other emergencies."
