Brigham Young University student performing group, Living Legends, is coming soon from the United States to begin a three week tour of New Zealand, Tonga and Samoa.
Starting in the latter part of April, the group will perform in Auckland, Hamilton, Palmerston North and Wellington before traveling to Tonga and Samoa in May.
Celebrating the native cultural heritage of North and South America and the South Pacific, the show is a vibrant spectacle of energy, music, costume, and dance.
As they take the stage, talented performers of native descent capture the rhythms of Polynesia, portray the fascinating legends of Native American people, and dazzle the senses with the energy of Latin America.
Both the lavish costumes and the intricate choreography are authentic representations of the showcase cultures. Several of the performers come from or have ties to the South Pacific.
“The dancers gave a display in furious tempo which all but took the breath of the spectators. They covered the stage in elegant costumes…and naturally reaped giant applause,” said Alborg from Denmark.
The students have spent many hours rehearsing for the shows and also taking classes to learn about the various cultures of the nations they visit. They are excited to travel to the South Pacific to experience the people and places here.
Open to the public, their first performance in Auckland is at Trinity Cathedral (Cnr St. Stephens Avenue and Parnell Road) on Thursday 28 April and their second is at Vodafone’s Centre BNZ Theatre (770 Great South Road).
Tickets for the performances are available to the public through various ticket vendors (see below). Purchase in advance so as not to be disappointed at the door.
While in the South Pacific, the students will also visit schools, hospitals, care centres, and other venues to entertain and provide encouragement, friendship, and good will.
The group will perform in Hamilton, Saturday 30 April at the Clarence Street Theatre then in Palmerston North, Tuesday 3 May at the Regent Theatre on Broadway. The Wellington performance is on Thursday 5 May at the Te Rauparaha Arena.
