The Pacific Area of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints announced this week the conclusion of the devoted service of Elder Peter F. Meurs as a General Authority Seventy and as a member of the Pacific Area Presidency. Following this assignment, he will now serve as a General Authority Seventy Emeritus.
DOWNLOADElder Meurs has served in senior Church leadership worldwide for the past decade, including four years in the Pacific Area Presidency. Accompanying him in this ministry has been his wife, Sister Maxine Meurs, who has faithfully supported his service throughout.
As a General Authority Seventy, Elder Meurs has provided inspired ecclesiastical leadership across the Pacific, strengthening members and leaders in their discipleship of Jesus Christ. Sister Meurs has stood alongside him in this sacred assignment, offering steadfast support and sharing uplifting messages of faith, devotion, and Christlike service.
Throughout his ministry, Elder Meurs has been a steady and encouraging voice, inviting all to strengthen their faith in Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. His teachings have consistently emphasized ministering one by one and gathering in the home, at church, and in the temple. He has encouraged members and friends of the Church to deepen their discipleship through participation in sacred ordinances, including during weekly sacrament meetings (worship services) and in temples.
Elder Meurs has ministered across the diverse cultures and communities of the Pacific with love, humility, and vision, with Sister Meurs faithfully accompanying him in these labours. Together, their service has strengthened individuals and families, helping many draw closer to the Saviour Jesus Christ.
Known for his guiding question, “What would it take?”, Elder Meurs has inspired leaders and members alike to exercise faith, seek solutions, and work together to strengthen individuals, families, and communities—both spiritually and temporally.
Elder Meurs’ legacy in the Pacific is one of Christlike leadership, visionary service, and unwavering faith. Sister Meurs’ devoted support and quiet influence have complemented and strengthened this ministry. Their combined example will continue to bless the lives of those they have served.
