A handover ceremony was held in Suva recently when a container of supplies was opened and distribution began.

The Minister of Health and Medical Services, Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete, said, “It is important to acknowledge that a major part of the Ministry’s success in containing the virus was through the generosity of donors, friends and development partners.”

He thanked the Church for its continuous effort in supporting the Government in its Covid-19 response.

“The Church’s efforts to assist our health care workers through PPEs and outfitting our isolation facilities has played a major part in the Government’s wholistic response, and allowed for a timing and effective care to our communities during the different Covid-19 waves.”

“We also acknowledge their assistance in providing wheelchairs and dispensary equipment for remote provinces.”

Leader of the Church in Fiji, Elder Paul B. Whippy, said, “We are grateful for strong partnerships with governments, international organisations, and the host of people around the world contributing to solutions. We thank too the Ministry of Health workers for the wonderful work they do around the clock as they have responded to the pandemic.”

“And we offer our thanks to the thousands of people whose donations support the work of Latter-day Saint Charities. These donations allow us to respond immediately without any delay, and we are grateful for the generosity and trust of all who support these efforts.”
