Elder Adolf Johansson, Area Seventy in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and Richard Hunter, Pacific Area director of public affairs, met with editor Nemani Delaibatiki and members of the Fiji Sun staff on Tuesday 30 October.
Elder Johansson and Mr Hunter were accompanied by Mrs Sulueti Kama, Fiji director of public affairs for the Church, Elder Ron Williams and Sister Kathy Williams, missionaries for the Church, and Miss JoAnne Wadsworth, a Brigham Young University student on a three-month internship in the South Pacific.
The Latter-day Saint group discussed with Mr Delaibatiki and members of the Fiji Sun editorial team a range of subjects including the Church’s focuses on faith, family, religious freedom, education, humanitarian relief, self-reliance and other efforts aimed at lifting individuals, families and whole communities.
“We understand that the Fiji Sun, like all news media organisations, are independent and rigorous in their pursuit of facts as they report on the news and provide their best perspectives for the benefit of readers,” Elder Johansson said.
“We are grateful for our friends in the news media, here in Fiji and across the region, who are, like us, truth-seekers, and desiring to help people. Of course they have to report on the tough news of the day, but we are happy to see good news published as well, coming from the lives of ordinary people and communities making good things happen through faith, collaboration and hard work.”
