Church Leadership Changes Announced for Apia Samoa Stake

Members of the Apia Samoa Stake of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints welcomed new leaders 18 February 2018.

The stake presidency was reorganized by Elder O. Vincent Haleck of the Church’s Pacific Area Presidency. He was joined by Elder Meliula Fata, Area Seventy.

Denny Fa’alogo was called as President of the Apia Samoa Stake, with Spencer Tautu as First Counselor and Ierome Vaoliko as Second Counselor.

A stake is a Mormon term for a group of congregations—called wards—in a geographical area, similar to a diocese in other Christian churches.

Prior to announcing the new stake presidency Elder Haleck led the stake members in thanking the previous stake presidency, Uilisone Tuia, Samuelu Atiifale and Spencer Tautu, for their years of devoted service. Spencer Tautu will continue to serve in the newly called stake presidency.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints does not have a paid clergy, so local church leaders are not paid for the time and effort they dedicate to serve the members of their congregations.
