Latter-day Saint leader, Elder Taniela Wakolo, wrapped up a four day youth conference in Fiji this week by encouraging over 500 teenagers to thank their parents for all they do and to give them “a big bear hug.”
The conference was held in Suva and included young members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from across Fiji. Activities included a service project planting pineapples and dalo for community use, sports, a dance, a career workshop, and worship services.
In Elder Wakolo’s remarks at the conclusion of the conference, he also encouraged the youth to prepare now for their futures. “Use the tools that have been presented to receive better educations; be good members of the community; and live more faithful lives.”
He reminded the teens of the theme of the conference: “Holy Places — My life, My Desire, My Choice.”
“The best holy place to start with is with yourself,” he said. “Take with you the positive things from this conference, thank your Heavenly Father for this camp. Go to your bishop and thank him for this opportunity.”

For one attendee, Leonard Radrodro, the best part of the conference was the career workshop. “It helped us identify our career paths,” he said, adding that he was also planning to serve as a missionary.
Labasa youth leader, Semielia Rakuita, said: “This has been a wonderful experience for our youth from Labasa. We have all had such a great time.”
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints places a high priority on the development of youth. These types of conferences are held the world over to provide opportunities for youth to have fun, learn, serve, strengthen friendships and build faith in Jesus Christ.
