All rights reserved.The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, in partnership with the Ministry of Education and Training, officially handed over the first phase of a donation of student desks and chairs during a special ceremony held at the Ministry of Education and Training's ʻApi Mataka headquarters on Thursday, 16 July 2026.
Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Sinaitakala Tukuʻaho, together with Honourable Huʻakavameiliku, Acting Minister for Education and Training, attended the event alongside government officials, Church leaders, educators, and invited guests.
Opening the ceremony, Mr. Hepeti Takeifanga, Acting CEO for Education and Training, expressed sincere appreciation to the Church for its generous contribution to education in Tonga. He noted that the donation presented during the ceremony represented the first phase of a significant contribution that will directly benefit students of Tupou College Toloa.
Speaking on behalf of the Church, President Uinitoni Kakau, President of the Nukuʻalofa Tonga Central Stake, reaffirmed the Church's commitment to supporting education and strengthening communities. Seeking to follow the example of Jesus Christ members from around the world voluntarily donate funds to the Church to bless the lives of all Heavenly Father’s children. He expressed hope that this humanitarian donation would help create a better learning environment for students and contribute positively to their educational development.
President Kakau explained that the donation consists of 400 small student tables and 400 small student chairs, as well as 600 regular-sized desks and 600 regular-sized chairs, all of which will be donated to Tupou College Toloa. Following his remarks, the donated furniture was formally presented to Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Sinaitakala Tukuʻaho.
DOWNLOADAccepting the donation on behalf of Tupou College, Mr. Sefili Saimonita Paongo, Acting Principal of Tupou College, expressed heartfelt gratitude to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for its generosity and support. He warmly accepted the donation and acknowledged the strong partnership and cooperation between the Church and the Ministry of Education and Training in supporting the education and future of Tonga's youth.
The ceremony concluded with remarks from Honourable Huʻakavameiliku, Acting Minister for Education and Training, who thanked the Church and all those involved in making the donation possible. He highlighted the Church's longstanding contributions to both the education and health sectors throughout Tonga and commended its continued efforts to bless communities and improve the lives of individuals and families throughout the kingdom.
