BYU Chamber Orchestra visits Australia. 9 May 2025© 2025 by Intellectual Reserve, Inc. All rights reserved.Music filled the air in both Newcastle and Sydney, Australia as the BYU Chamber Orchestra performed to sell-out crowds earlier this week.
On Sunday, 4 May 2025, the Chamber Orchestra performed at a multi-faith devotional, held at Newcastle University, where nearly 1000 guests attended. Joining the Chamber Orchestra in the evening of both sacred and secular music was Conlon Bonner, a Broadway performer.

All rights reserved.The Chamber Orchestra performed music from both Australian and American composers, with songs, such as The Man from Snowy River and Silverado. The closing number for the night was a beautiful rendition of A Child’s Prayer.
President Shane Osmotherly, leader for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Newcastle, said, “It was amazing. Both BYU and Conlon Bonner really worked well together. Everyone involved did a great job. Feedback from attendees is that everyone really enjoyed the evening.”
On Monday, 5 May 2025, the BYU Chamber Orchestra joined with renowned Australian didgeridoo instrumentalist, William Barton, for a concert at the Chatswood Concourse in Sydney. Songs performed highlighted both Australian and American cultures.

All rights reserved.According to one attendee, the didgeridoo, combined with the chamber orchestra, brought a unique sound to the music, which helped the listener feel as if nature and Australian animals were a part of the concert.
Bishop Silala Vea, of the Catholic Orthodox Church, who attended the concert, said, “The performance was truly breathtaking. I felt a profound connection with the musicians. I left the concert feeling inspired and uplifted.”

It was so beautiful: I closed my eyes many times and just soaked in the beauty of the Lord’s orchestra.”
The BYU Chamber Orchestra will continue to tour Australia, with performances in Melbourne, Hobart, and Perth.
