Beautiful voices were raised in song worshiping Jesus Christ at the 26th Annual Choral Festival held at St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Ballarat, Victoria, Australia, on 28 July 2024.
The festival was organized by the Ballarat congregation of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The choral festival featured thirteen choirs from various faith-based and choral organizations.
Dean Berger, Latter-day Saint leader of the eight Deer Park region congregations, commenting on the festival, said, “We are thankful for all those that use their talents to increase the knowledge of Jesus Christ through song, word, and deed. This is a wonderful event that fosters a sense of belonging in a non-competitive setting. In our faith, we believe that songs of the heart are shared as a prayer.”
This year choir members ranged in age from primary school children to older citizens and songs varied from favourites like, I’ll Fly Away, by Albert E. Brumley to Rewrite the Stars, by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul. Also included in the concert were classical favourites such as, the Hallelujah Chorus by Handel and Christus Factus Est, by Felice Anario.
Margaret Lenan Ellis, organizer of the festival, said, “The Cathedral is always packed, and the feeling of joy and goodwill it generates is especially palpable in the combined-choirs finale, where all participating choirs join to lift the roof, singing with one voice. I enjoyed the concert and felt it was a spiritual and exhilarating experience.”
