Auckland Youth Use Vines and Memes to Encourage Serving Others

Teenagers from Auckland's North Shore are using their cameras, smartphones and tablets to record themselves and their friends washing dishes, mowing lawns, babysitting and doing other acts of service in their homes and communities.

The #embark2serve social media initiative is the brainchild of 17-year-old James S. and is in preparation for a youth conference next month.

“We hope youth will keep doing good things for their families, friends and others in their communities,” James said.

“The only difference is that now, as we prepare for our youth conference, we’re inviting them to make a little video or meme that captures their service, and encourages their friends to serve others also.”

A meme is a picture with a caption, and a vine is a short video with a funny or serious message.
