A House of Learning in a Remote Mountain Community

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints provides new classrooms for a remote village in Papua New Guinea

On 24 April 2025, students, teachers, neighbours and friends gathered to celebrate the opening of four new classrooms in their modest community school in the remote village of Tauruba, in southern Papua New Guinea.

The village sits on the side of a mountain, typically accessible only by trucks and heavy vehicles, but even after recent heavy rains, teachers, students, community leaders and residents came to celebrate the opening of their new four-room school building.
