Members of The Churh of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from across New Zealand gathered in Hawke’s Bay to celebrate the 130th anniversary of the Book of Mormon being translated and distributed in te reo Māori.

Local Latter-day Saint and Hastings District Councillor, Bayden Barber, said the commemoration began with a traditional ball at the Bridge Pa chapel.
The Hui Tau was organised by the Te Hauke branch of the Church, which is part of the Hastings Stake.
"The first missionaries that came to New Zealand from America learned the Māori language and customs," Barber said. "They ate Māori kai, slept in Māori kāinga, and endeared themselves to the Māori people.
