Clad in the their familiar yellow “Mormon Helping Hands” vests, members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints hit the streets of Rotorua recently to gather donations from pantries and gardens.
The donations were delivered to Community Kai which feeds more than 70 people each Thursday out of Linton Park Hall.
During the week they also hand out food parcels to the poor and needy, especially the elderly.
“We couldn’t believe the generosity we got. Our boots were full within hours,” said Annette Brons, who organized the Church members for the event.
Officials at Community Kai expressed their gratitude for the donations on their Facebook page.
”These wonderful people had a super day collecting around the streets of Rotorua and people gave generously from their pantries.
“Thank you so much to all those who participated and donated. A big thank you to Rotorua.”
Mormon Helping Hands projects conducted by Latter-day Saint congregations around the world focus on improving communities and assisting those in need.
They provide organized opportunities for Church members to give their time and talents to bless those in need and show that the Church is a friend to the community.
