The International Day of Families will be celebrated May 15, 2017 at the United Nations. The theme is “Families, Education and Well-Being”.
Three days later, on 18 May, the Permanent Mission of Samoa to the UN, the NGO Committee on the Family, the Universal Peace Federation and LDS Charities will co-sponsor another family-focused event.
LDS Charities is a humanitarian arm of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
“Educating Hearts and Minds: Parents’ Role in Helping Their Children Thrive” is the theme of the 18 May gathering.
The opening remarks at this event will be given by His Excellency Ali'ioagia Feturi Elisaia, Ambassador of Samoa to The United Nations and United States.
Ambassador Elisaia visited Brigham Young University in 2013 to speak to faculty and students about religous freedom.
Each year on May 15 The International Day of Families is observed.
According to the United Nations: “This year’s observance focuses on the role of families and family-oriented policies in promoting education and overall well-being of their members. In particular, the Day is to raise awareness of the role of families in promoting early childhood education and lifelong learning opportunities for children and youth.”
